Maundy Thursday | Thursday, April 17 (in-person only)

Service | Chapel | 5:30 p.m. & Meal | Fellowship Hall | 6:15 p.m.

We will gather in the Chapel to reflect on three key scenes of Jesus’ last experiences in Jerusalem and the ways they evoke in us the practices of moral beauty, wonder, meaning, and curiosity.

We will then process together to the Fellowship Hall to celebrate and remember the delight of the final meal shared between Jesus and his disciples as we share a simple supper and celebrate Holy Communion.

Good Christ's Passion Friday

Friday, April 18 | Sanctuary | 12:15 p.m. (streaming live)

 

Our service will bring us to “The Scene of the Cross” as we read the gospel accounts of Jesus’ death, sing hymns, and pray together. We will consider the awe it evokes through self-giving discipleship.

Easter Worship | Sunday, April 20

Sunrise Service | Church Front Lawn | 7:00 a.m. (in-person only)

Dress warmly (bring a blanket) as we worship together in the early morning light and imagine being with the women who were the first witnesses of the empty tomb.

 

Traditional | Sunday Worship | Sanctuary | 10:00 a.m. (streaming live)

We have journeyed for several weeks, reminding ourselves that life and the world are full of awe. We have seen beauty, we have opened to wonder, we have searched for meaning with curiosity, we have delighted in the gifts of the Divine One, we have reconnected with each other and remembered the joy of self-giving on behalf of a better world. This morning is the most awe-filled of all. Our faith story is ultimately about the victory of life over death.

Easter Fellowship & Egg Hunt

Everyone is invited to our annual Easter Egg Hunt on the church lawn following our traditional 10:00 a.m. Easter service. The children will gather in the church lobby. Our Sunday School leaders will lead preschoolers to the playground area, and grade-school children will proceed to the front lawn as they all hunt for candy-filled Easter eggs.

In today's Bible lesson, we celebrate the resurrection of Jesus! When Jesus died, his body was put into a tomb. On the third day, Mary Magdalene found the tomb empty.​

Daren Williams Presents

"Stalin's Ukrainian Genocide 1932-33: Through the Eyes of Ukrainian Artists"

While working to build U.S.-Ukraine business ties during the last 30 years of his life, Daren Williams' father, Morgan Williams, amassed the world's most extensive collection of artworks related to the Holodomor, when Josef Stalin's Soviet regime starved 5-7 million Ukrainians to death to force them off their land. The collection serves as a timely and poignant reminder of the danger of letting one man gain absolute power. Daren will share the story of the Holodomor and his father's work in Ukraine through some of h

his favorite pieces in the collection, which his family has donated to the National Museum of Holodomor-Genocide in Kiev. If you plan to attend the presentation and light lunch, RSVP to Daren at williamsdarenr@outlook.com.

English as a Second Language (ESL) Classes Offered at First UMC Modesto

FUMC Modesto is excited to host an ESL (English as a Second Language) class every Sunday during worship. We aim to help adult learners become more comfortable with their English skills and expand our church community!  Childcare will be provided through our Children's Sunday School. No registration is required.
